Paul joined the BBC at 18 as a trainee projectionist. He left after 25 years to go freelance by which time he was one of the BBC’s six Senior Film Cameramen. He specialised in television drama and his numerous credits included Inspector Morse for which he received two BAFTA nominations and, more recently, the filming of restaged National Theatre productions for Trevor Nunn: Oklahoma; The Merchant of Venice; and King Lear.
Paul combined his career as a Director of Photography with teaching and writing. He was Head of Cinematography at the Royal College of Art (RCA), the National Film and Television School (NFTS) and the Metropolitan Film School at Ealing Studios. Paul was an Honorary Visiting Professor at Roehampton University. Paul has published several highly regarded technical books on cinematography covering film, digital, and High Definition.
Now retired from filming Paul is enjoying traveling and concentrating on still photography.
